This study focuses on the analysis of code-switching of Universitas Mahasaraswati Denpasar’s Synergy of Bird Conservation with Customary Village Community to Promote Demulih Bangli as a Green and Harmonious Virtual Educational Tourism or in Indonesian is Sinergi Konservasi Burung Bersama Desa Adat dalam Mempromosikan Bukit Demulih Bangli sebagai Kawasan Wisata Edukasi Virtual yang Hijau dan Berkicau (henceforth SITADEWIKU) researchers.  This study aimed at identifying the types and the function of code-switching on the Universitas Mahasaraswati Denpasar’s researchers WhatsApp group. It was found that 15 text messages show code-switching. The descriptive qualitative method was applied in this research. The types of code switching were analyzed using Romaine's ( 1995))theory, and the function of code-switching was analyzed using the theory of there were three types of code-switching found by the researchers: tag-switching, inter-sentential, and the last one is intra-sentential. The results showed that from 15 data texts the majority of the data used by the members of the research was intra-sentential switching. In terms of function, based on the theory used there were six functions of code-switching from the data above, namely referential function, directive function, expressive function, phatic function, metalinguistic function, and poetic function. The expressive function is the most commonly used function of code-switching found.

WABAH CORONA DAN UNGGAHAN DI INSTAGRAM: ANALISIS KOMPONEN TINDAK TUTUR

This research focuses on investigating speech acts on the posts containing Corona virus outbreak alerts on Instagram. The primary data include the written posts uploaded on this social media. This pragmatic approach is a qualitative research. The method used was observation realized through note taking the characteristics of the posts. In-depth interviews were also conducted involving 20 Instagram users to be utilized as supporting data for more comprehensive analysis. The data were analyzed using domain analysis, taxonomy, componential analysis, and cultural theme observation by taking into account the context of situation. The results showed that every conversation on Instagram uses not only illocution but also locution, which is identical to interrogative sentences, commands, and statements. Meanwhile, perlocution was used when the users uploaded various information, suggestions and criticisms. The dominant speech act functions found in this study were expressive, commissive, declarative, and directive. Various posts aimed to provide current information, to suggest people to listen to the government's rules to stay at home, practice social restriction, improve healthy lifestyle as well as give criticism concerning lack of discipline behavior. Social media users are able to react on information, criticisms and suggestions on Instagram wisely so that the social media can play an effective role in anticipating the spread of the Corona virus in Indonesia. Tindak tutur memiliki peran dalam kehidupan nyata maupun dunia maya yaitu, melalui media sosial. Penelitian ini berfokus pada implementasi komponen tindak tutur pada unggahan terkait wabah virus Corona di media sosial Instagram. Data primer meliputi data tertulis pada unggahan di Instagram. Penelitian dengan pendekatan pragmatik ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif. Metode yang digunakan observasi, teknik pengumpulan data menyimak, mencatat unggahan di Instagram yang saat ini menjadi media sosial sangat populer dan  banyak diminati. Wawancara mendalam terhadap 20 pengguna Instagram dilakukan sebagai pendukung. Data dianalisis menggunakan analisis domain, taksonomi, komponensial, dan tema budaya dengan mempertimbangkan konteks situasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan setiap unggahan di Instagram tidak saja menggunakan tindak tutur ilokusi yang diimplementasikan dengan fungsi dan jenis tindak tutur, tetapi juga lokusi yang  identik dengan kalimat interogatif, perintah serta pernyataan dan perlokusi yang digunakan ketika mengunggah berbagai informasi, saran maupun kritik dalam bentuk mengajak serta menarik perhatian. Fungsi tindak tutur dominan adalah fungsi ekspresif, komisif, deklaratif dan direktif yang disesuaikan dengan konteks situasi. Jenis tindak tutur langsung dan tidak langsung lebih dominan ketika memberikan informasi, saran atau himbauan. Berbagai unggahan bertujuan memberikan informasi yang terjadi saat ini, mengajak masyarakat untuk mendengarkan himbauan pemerintah agar tidak keluar rumah, pembatasan sosial, pola hidup bersih dan sehat, serta kritik terhadap perilaku kurang disiplin. Meskipun jenis dan fungsi tuturan beragam, pengguna media sosial mampu memahami informasi, kritik maupun saran dalam unggahan di Instagram dengan bijaksana. Media sosial berperan sangat efektif sebagai media informasi dalam mengantisipasi merebaknya virus Corona di Indonesia

VERBAL HUMOUR CREATED BY NON-OBSERVANCE OF COOPERATIVE PRINCIPLE IN MIRANDA

Humour is one of essential aspects to communicate with other people comfortably. Most of verbal humours, especially implicit humours generate because people break Grice’s four conversational maxims. Concerning this phenomenon, this research aims to find out types of non-observance of cooperative principle found in verbal humour, which uttered by the characters in British Situational Comedy Miranda. Qualitative method was adapted to analyze the data, which was conducted through identifying, classifying, interpreting the data. Humorous utterances from nine episodes of Miranda were the primary sources of data. In collecting the data, the researchers observed the whole episodes and the scripts, checked the suitability, took a note, and classified it into tables. The study concludes that there are four types of non-observance of cooperative principle, namely violating, flouting, infringing, and opting out a maxim. The result reveals that there are 80 humorous utterances, which do not obey the maxim. There are 66 utterances (82,5%) of flouting maxim, 10 utterances (12,5%) violation maxim, 3 utterances (3,75%) of infringing maxim, and 1 utterance (1,25%) of opting out maxim which are found in the sitcom

Effects of depression on the life of the main character in Her movie by Spike Jonze

People are coping with various problems in life that may influence their mental health if they fail to manage them. One kind of mental illness is depression that is frequently marked by the feeling of helplessness, disliking oneself, and shame for being weak. Being aware of depression signs by learning from any kind of media including movie will help people to control their mental and emotional condition. This study attempts to find out the effects of depression on the main character in Her, a two-hour-five-minute movie that is said to be a romance narrative about the relationship between Theodore, a sensitive, depressed and lonely guy with his computer operating system (OS) called Samantha. This study applied a qualitative descriptive method that was realized through observation and content analysis technique. To reveal the psychological exploration focusing on Theodore’s depression, the obtained data were classified based on the relevant categories describing effects of depression. The results show that there are five effects of depression taking place on the life of the main character, Theodore, namely (1) self-blame (2) low self-esteem, (3) loss of appetite, (4) trouble concentrating and (5) trouble sleeping. These five effects are triggered by Theodore’s helplessness due to his divorce that he makes him difficult to move on and the surrounding environment that frequently mocks him.

DONALD TRUMP AND HIS SPEECH: A STUDY OF DIFFERENT USAGES OF DEIXIS

The present research focuses on different usages of deixis by Donald Trump in his speech on 1 June 2020 at Rose Garden, White House. The aim of this research is to analyze the use of deixis in Donald Trump’s speech. The descriptive qualitative method was used in analyzing the data found in this research. The collected data were analysed by observing how the deixis was used in sentences. In analyzing the data, Levinson’s (1983) theory about different usages of deixis was applied. Based on Levinson's theory of deixis usages, deixis can be used through a gestural, symbolic, and non-deictic way.  This research found three ways of deixis usages in Donald Trump’s speech, namely gestural, symbolic, and non-deictic use. Symbolic way of deixis usage was the most frequent occurrence, that is 82 times. This finding was followed by the non-deictic usage which occurred 6 times, and gestural usage that occurred 3 times. By investigating the usage of deixis, this study is expected to give an understanding that in delivering a speech, deixis can be used in different ways to support the content meant to be shared by the speaker as well as to make effective message delivery

Faithful Translation Applied in Translating Webtoon I Love Yoo

The aim of translation is to transfer meaning from the source language to the target language. There are some methods that can be used in translating the text, one of them is faithful translation. Faithful translation method is a method that reproduces the exact contextual meaning of the original within the limits of the grammatical structures of the target language. This study focuses on analyzing faithful translation methods in the webtoon “I Love Yoo”. The objective of this study is to identify how the faithful translation method is applied in translating webtoon Ï Love Yoo”. The method applied in this study is qualitative descriptive method and the data were taken from the 1st to 10th episode of webtoon “I Love Yoo”. The data collected were analyzed by reading both versions of the webcomic, classified each sentence according to the translation methods and explained why the sentences are included into each translation method. To analyze the data, this study used the theory translation method proposed by Newmark (1988). It is found that 8 translation methods were applied but faithful translation method is most frequently used because the translator translates cultural terms and maintains the degree of grammatical and lexical faithfully to the intentions and the text-realisation of the source language writer.

LEXICAL ANALYSIS OF SEMANTIC ERRORS FOUND IN THE TRANSLATION OF JOKO WIDODO’S INSTAGRAM ACCOUNT

This research focuses on the semantic errors in lexis occurred in the translation by Instagram Machine Translation. This research aims at identifying the types of semantic error in lexis made by Instagram Machine Translation found in the Joko Widodo’s Instagram account. This research also analyses semantic errors in lexis to show how Instagram machine translation works and the potential errors that it may cause. This study utilized observation method in collecting the data. Descriptive qualitative method was applied in analyzing the semantic errors in lexis by elaborating each type of them. In addition, translation procedures were also examined to find out clear explanation on what procedures contribute to the errors. The data were taken from the posts in Joko Widodo’s Instagram account and were analyzed by the semantic errors in lexis based on theory by James (1998). The study concluded that the confusion of sense relations in choosing a wrong synonym is mostly found in the translation of Instagram machine translation

LITERAL TRANSLATION AS DOMINANT PROCEDURE FOUND IN "ENCANTO" MOVIE SUBTITLE

The literal translation employed in the subtitle of the movie "Encanto" was the primary focus of this study. The purpose of the study is to identify the main categories of translation procedures utilized in the movie subtitle for "Encanto" and to discuss how the literal translation procedures are applied. In this study, the qualitative descriptive approach was applied. The data for the study was derived from the movie’s subtitle, "Encanto." The data were acquired through viewing the motion, reading the script, assessing many sorts of translation techniques, correlating the dialogue to the script, classifying and recognizing words, phrases, and clauses, then lastly selecting and noting the various categories of data. The information was seen and examined by utilizing Newmark's (1988) theory of translation procedures. There is one dominant type found in this research, such as literal translation, procedures about 24 data are found in this research. TRANSLATION OF ENGLISH-INDONESIAN NOUN PHRASES: IDENTIFICATION OF LOSS, ADDITION AND SKEWING

This study focuses on the analysis of how information may be lost, added, and skewed in the English-Indonesian translation of noun phrases in the novel The Valley of Fear. This study utilized descriptive qualitative method through note-taking technique. Nida’s principles of translation were applied to investigate how these three principles occur. The results showed that loss, addition, and skewing were found with several classifications, namely (1) omission of adjectives and indefinite quantifiers as well as different grammatical points of view for loss of information, (2) different linguistic and cultural aspects for addition of information, and (3) deviation of meaning and the choice of closest natural equivalence for skewing of information. Of the 507 cases found, addition of information occurs on the highest percentage, i.e. 54,81% (278 data), loss of information takes 41,42% (210 data) and skewing of information takes the lowest percentage, i.e. 3,74% (19 data). These findings indicate that actually loss, addition and skewing take place in translation of noun phases from English into Indonesian for the sake of finding naturalness without neglecting the accuracy of transferring meaning

A STUDY OF OLIVER TWIST INFERIORITY ON CHARLES DICKENS’S OLIVER TWIST

This study focuses on Oliver Twist inferiority feeling during his childhood life. Oliver Twist as the main character of the novel experienced several miserable treatments from people around him. Along with the inferiority feeling, unfortunately it brings some effects towards him. This is the reason of why this study created by describing the inferiority feelings together with the impact qualitatively. Since the study is in literature matter, psychological and sociological approaches were applied to elaborate the inferior feeling experienced by the main character. There were five settings where Oliver Twist got bad treatment done by several supporting figures and made him become an innocent, rebel and courageous boy as the effects of those inferiority in this study
